Deer Valley Music Festival

Jeff and I bought tickets a while back for the Deer Valley Music Festival on Saturday. They had a Beatles cover band playing with the Utah Symphony, so we thought it would be fun to go and check it out. I have been looking forward to going (our next door neighbor's go every year and always have a blast); plus, I had never been to Park City. We headed up on Satuday late afternoon with chairs, a picnic basket, some yummy food and (of course) wine. We got up there (it was at an amphitheater and we had to walk up a ski slope hill to set up) and got settled in. As soon as we had opened the wine (making it a real party), the sky started to get dark and we heard thunder.

I kept hoping it would pass, while Jeff kept hoping it would make a bee-line for West Jordan and soak the yard. Unfortunately, we were both worng and right as the concert was starting, the skies opened up. Luckily we had some hoodies and blankets with us, so we tried (unsuccessfully) to stay dry.

After the concert started, the rain didn't seem to matter as much. The cover band was AWESOME and sounded so much like the Beatles it was eery. Then, as they wrapped up "Here Comes the Sun" (ironic by this time), I looked up and saw the most beautiful rainbow in the sky.

It was fun to watch all the people at the concert as they saw the rainbow for the first time. Everyone was pointing it out and getting pictures of it. It was actually a double rainbow, but the rainbow on top was very faint, so I don't know if it came out very well in the pictures. Still, after that sign we thought we were out of the woods...but we weren't.

It rained the ENTIRE time we were there. At one point, it hailed pretty decent sized hail; thank goodness the music was so good because we didn't want to leave. After the heavy rain stopped and it was just drizzling, the wind kicked up. The temperature dropped from 95 degrees to 65 degrees with about 35-40 mph wind. It was so cold, especially since we were drenched. So, what do you do in this situation? The only thing you can do....drink more wine. So, that's what we did!

By the time we got back to the car, we were soaked, cold but happy. Overall, it was a great night. Of course, I was really happy that we had brought my car and could utilize the heated seats on the way home. Still, I think we will go back again next year. The atmosphere, people and music was OUTSTANDING!!
