Yay, I finally made it to posting about our December! Seems like it has been a long process, but I certainly did not want to skimp on blogging about Ireland. That trip was so amazing that I wanted to have it written down so that we can always look back on it and reminisce.
Anyway, on Christmas Eve the weather was nice enough that we decided to head out behind the apartment complex and take the dogs for a walk in the woods. Behind our building there are woods, which makes for perfect short walks whenever we want. We just grab the dogs' leashes and head outside. We had heard from people that the land the complex was built on used to be old farm land and that there were some old buildings and cars back in the woods from those days. Lots of people take their dogs back there and investigate it, so we decided to check it out.
The weather was perfect and, although it was a little muddy, the dogs had a blast! We let Kira off leash and she just trail blazed through the woods, investigating everything around. We had to keep Koda on his leash, but he was still inquisitive and especially liked checking out the old cars (as did Jeff).
The cars were really neat and it was interesting to think about the circumstances that would cause someone to leave a car in the middle of a farm. The great thing was that we could still see the apartment complex from the woods, so we were never too far away from home.
On the way back, we passed Joe and Sheila. Sheila is one of Kira's playmates in the complex; they are about the same age, about the same weight and just absolutely love each other. As soon as they see each other, the tails start wagging full force and they stop listening and start heading for each other. Kira and Sheila had a great time, while we talked to Joe. Koda, on the other hand, is not a huge fan of Sheila and was being held by Jeff (spoiled dog).
It was so nice to be able to spend Christmas Eve hiking outside instead of being hunkered down inside because of the snow. Yay for east coast Christmases!
