Jeff and I bought tickets a while back for the Deer Valley Music Festival on Saturday. They had a Beatles cover band playing with the Utah Symphony, so we thought it would be fun to go and check it out. I have been looking forward to going (our next door neighbor's go every year and always have a blast); plus, I had never been to Park City. We headed up on Satuday late afternoon with chairs, a picnic basket, some yummy food and (of course) wine. We got up there (it was at an amphitheater and we had to walk up a ski slope hill to set up) and got settled in. As soon as we had opened the wine (making it a real party), the sky started to get dark and we heard thunder.

I kept hoping it would pass, while Jeff kept hoping it would make a bee-line for West Jordan and soak the yard. Unfortunately, we were both worng and right as the concert was starting, the skies opened up. Luckily we had some hoodies and blankets with us, so we tried (unsuccessfully) to stay dry.

After the concert started, the rain didn't seem to matter as much. The cover band was AWESOME and sounded so much like the Beatles it was eery. Then, as they wrapped up "Here Comes the Sun" (ironic by this time), I looked up and saw the most beautiful rainbow in the sky.

It was fun to watch all the people at the concert as they saw the rainbow for the first time. Everyone was pointing it out and getting pictures of it. It was actually a double rainbow, but the rainbow on top was very faint, so I don't know if it came out very well in the pictures. Still, after that sign we thought we were out of the woods...but we weren't.

It rained the ENTIRE time we were there. At one point, it hailed pretty decent sized hail; thank goodness the music was so good because we didn't want to leave. After the heavy rain stopped and it was just drizzling, the wind kicked up. The temperature dropped from 95 degrees to 65 degrees with about 35-40 mph wind. It was so cold, especially since we were drenched. So, what do you do in this situation? The only thing you can do....drink more wine. So, that's what we did!

By the time we got back to the car, we were soaked, cold but happy. Overall, it was a great night. Of course, I was really happy that we had brought my car and could utilize the heated seats on the way home. Still, I think we will go back again next year. The atmosphere, people and music was OUTSTANDING!!

Random Pictures
Here are some random pictures we took this week.
Our Pioneer Day was uneventful. Jeff had to work, so I just hung out with the dogs at home. We had a good day until it got dark and the fireworks started. I swear, who would have thought Pioneer Day would be celebrated more than the Fourth of July? Only in Utah...anyway, when the sun went down and the sky lit up, Kira got so scared. She even tried to hide behind her bone toy box (which she is MUCH larger than). I wish that people would think about dogs during holidays. Fireworks are such a waste of money anyway; if they gave me $100 bill, I would be more than happy to light it for them. That's what a waste of money fireworks are to me. But, we made it through the night and Kira may have even gotten a little sleep. Poor girl; she looks completely terrified in these pictures.

Koda decided to put himself to sleep early on Friday night and when we came upstairs to get ready for bed, this is how we found him...

'Night-'night Mr. Koda!
On Saturday we just hung out most of the morning and early afternoon until it was time to get ready to go to Park City for the music festival (post about that to come). Here are some pictures of our lazy Saturday morning in our pajamas (at least me anyway).

It was a fun just hanging out with Kira and Koda this weekend.

Old School, Silly Pictures
I know, enough about Vegas already...but I have one more thing to share. While we were waiting for the Zumanity theater to open its doors on Friday night, we wondered around the hotel and found a huge arcade. In the arcade they had one of those old school picture booths and since Jeff and I had never gotten our pictures taken in one before, we decided to do it. It was a blast and I am really glad we did it. Great memories from that night that I now have captured forever. Thanks for being a good sport, Jeff!

The Vegas Aftermath!
Well you would have thought that after the weekend we had, Jeff and I would be the ones dragging on Sunday...but, no, it was Kira and Koda who were laid out the entire day. I don't know what those people at PetSmart did to our babies (well, we did find out that they had Koda chasing a laser pointer), but they were both completely exhausted.

They both got good "Pawgress" reports and being that they were the only two puppies there during their stay, I am sure they got plenty of attention.

Weekend in Vegas, Part 3!
Saturday
It was a little difficult to get up on Saturday morning, but we had to check out of the hotel and do some sightseeing before we headed back to the airport. We did some shopping at the Miracle Mile shops located in Planet Hollywood...
While we were shopping, there were some people gathered around a small pond of water. After taking a closer look, I noticied that there was going to be a "thunderstorm" approaching any minute. Sure enough, as we were waiting, the mock thunder started to rumble and the rain came down inside. Here are some of the pictures that I took of the "spring shower"...

After that, we just walked around and took pictures of the various hotels, each of them nicer than the last. Here is the Monte Carlo where we stayed....

The MGM Grand....

Excalibur...

New York, New York (my favorite hotel)....

Bellagio....![]()

Caesar's Palace....

Paris...

And of course, we had to visit Margaritaville and have a drink. It was my first time and it was really fun (plus it was super hot so my strawberry daquiri tasted especially good).
After that it was back to the hotel for a cab and off to the airport.
Here are some random photos we took while on the trip...

It was a great trip but I was glad to come home. And, I found a saying that I think could be an alternate Vegas slogan as it fits it well....
We really did indulge while we were there...but at least we didn't come home with a time share on the strip!
